Rosemarie Hamon grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is the older of two, having only one sister and no brothers. Reared in the Church of Christ, she attended Abilene Christian College, now Abilene Christian University. There she met Bill Wilkinson, to whom she was married until his death in 1988. The couple had four children, John Wilkinson, Kathleen Kilgore, Sandra Duree, and Lora Farley. During the 1950s, the family moved to the Houston area where Bill taught school and Rosemarie worked for KHOU-TV as “Miss Marie” of Romper Room and attended the University of Houston. Upon completion of her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Houston, Rosemarie began a twenty-year career in public education. She served the La Porte Independent School District as teacher, Language Arts Coordinator, and Director of Elementary Education. During this time, she earned her Master of Arts in Education and Doctor of Education degrees and taught as an adjunct instructor at the University of Houston at Clear Lake. In 1990, Rosemarie answered a call to ministry, began work at the Houston Graduate School of Theology, and married J.D. Hamon, who lived until 2001. In 1994, she obtained her Master of Divinity degree and was ordained by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). For nine years, she was the pastor of Heights Christian Church in Houston, Texas, and is currently the Associate Pastor for the La Porte Community Church. In 2001, Rosemarie began teaching at the Houston Graduate School of Theology as an adjunct instructor. In December of 2007, she was invited to join the full-time staff as Associate Professor of Christian Education. At this time, family, which is very important to Rosemarie, includes her son, three daughters and their wonderful husbands, six grandsons, six granddaughters with three fine grandsons-in-law, two great-granddaughters, six great-grandsons, and three adorable little dogs. One grandson lives with his family in Colorado, but the all rest live within a ten-mile radius of the house in which Rosemarie, one granddaughter, and the pups abide. |
