About Dr. Towne

Dr. Becky Towne grew up in League City, Texas, but moved back to the Houston area in 2008 after 31 years of pastoral ministry with her husband in Texas, Iowa, and Colorado. She is in her sixth year as a resident faculty member with Houston Graduate School of Theology but was on the adjunct faculty team with the Doctor of Ministry Program for three years prior to joining the full-time faculty. She graduated from Barclay College and earned a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Houston Graduate School of Theology. As Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program, she works directly with doctoral students, develops curriculum, and oversees faculty.

She works closely with the Master of Arts in Counseling degree program. She teaches the foundational course on the master’s level—Introduction to Christian Spirituality—and a variety of spiritual formation courses within the master’s and doctoral programs. She is a member of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality. Dr. Towne enjoys reading historical fiction, leading worship through music, and serving as Communications Commission Chair for Evangelical Friends Church-North America. She and her husband, Jim, have been married for 37 years and have 2 daughters, 2 sons, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 son-in-law, and 3 grandchildren.
