A student's preparation for entering Houston Graduate School of Theology should include a determination of personal financial needs and the provisions for meeting these needs. HGST students should, as much as possible, be self-supporting. However, it is recognized that some men and women who have the potential of outstanding usefulness in Christian service may require assistance to complete their seminary program. The following information explains the financial assistance available at HGST. It is not possible for the seminary to provide the total budget needs of any student. All students must be prepared to settle their accounts at registration. The seminary does accept Visa and Master Card.
The Guaranteed Student Loan programs (Stafford Loans) are available for financial assistance to students. The student may be able to defer any previous loans while studying at HGST. See the Financial Aid Office for details.
Recipients of loans, scholarships, or grants are expected to be students whose intent is to graduate from HGST. Tuition and all other HGST accounts must be paid before remaining financial aid funds are distributed to students.
Consistent payments according to the agreement with the Business Office will make the student eligible for final examinations, credit for the semester's courses, and enrollment in the following semester.
A limited number of scholarships are made available by funds donated to the seminary for financial aid. Some scholarships recognize outstanding academic and leadership potential in ministry, while others seek to meet those with financial needs. These scholarships are available as awards under conditions established by the donors. Scholarships for the academic year are awarded in August.
Students wanting to apply for these scholarships must:
be in good academic standing;
be registered for a full-time course load (9-12 hours);
demonstrate leadership potential and/or strong economic need; and
make application before August 1.
Further information about and applications for these awards are available through the Business Office.
