HGST offers the following information on outside scholarships as a service to its students, but cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information provided here.

Please contact the organization directly for the latest information regarding qualifications, application, and deadlines for the scholarships in which you have interest.

 

Adolph Van Pelt Scholarships

Amount: $500 - $800 

Description: Scholarships for students with Native American Heritage with clear educational goals. 

Qualifications:

Proof of Native American heritage (at least 25%)

Career Advancement Scholarship

Description: A scholarship for women seeking the education necessary for re-entry into the work force, or advancement within a career field.

Woman age 25 or older and a citizen of the U.S.

Must demonstrate critical need for financial assistance

Must be graduating in 12 to 24 months

Must have definite career plan utilizing desired educational training

Career Development Grants

Amount: $2,000 - $8,000 

Description: Scholarship for women preparing to re-enter the work force, change careers or advance current career. Special consideration is given to AAUW members, women of color, and those pursuing degrees in nontraditional fields.

Must hold a Bachelors degree conferred prior to June 30, 1997

Chaplain Samuel Grover Powell Scholarship 

Deadline: July 1 

Amount: $900 (Minimum) 

Description: A scholarship fund established in memory of Chaplain Samuel Grover Powell for students who anticipate serving in the United States Military Chaplaincy upon completion of the seminary degree. This fund was established to help perpetuate Chaplain Powell's belief: “Military people deserve the best qualified chaplains for they are not only serving God, but their country.” 

Qualifications: 

Must be a senior or middler at an accredited theological seminary and involved in the Chaplain Candidate (Seminarian) Program or serving in the reserves after having completed an active tour of military duty.

Preference will be given to students in their senior year who plan to serve in the United States Air Force; however, persons preparing for service in any branch of the military will be given consideration.

Eastern Star Training Awards For Religious Leadership (ESTARL)

Description: Awards for student preparing for leadership in a field of religious service, such as ministry, missionary work, religious education, and/or youth work. 

Qualifications:

Need not be a member of Masonic or Eastern Star organizations

Requirements vary from state to state. Application may be made through the Grand Secretary of the state of residence or through the national office listed below

Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation, Inc.

Amount: $1,000 - $2,000 (maximum per year)

Description: ELA Scholarships are available only to women graduate students with physical disabilities who are enrolled in a college or university in the United States. These scholarships are awarded on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis. 

Qualifications:

The student must be a woman with a physical disability.

The student must be currently enrolled or actively applying to a graduate program in an accredited college or university in the United States.

The student must be active in a local, state, or national disability organization - either in person or electronically - which is providing services and/or advocacy for people with disabilities.

The student must be willing, as a ELA Scholar, to network with the ELA Board of Directors and the current and alumni scholarship recipients on our listserv. This will enhance the ELA Scholar's support base in professional and political arenas.

The student must be willing to update ELA with an annual letter on her progress in her academic and working career.

Grace Foundation Scholarship Fund

Amount: $4,000 (Maximum) 

Description: Fund established to help train promising Christian students from China and other developing countries in Southeast Asia so they can effectively work towards improving the welfare of needy persons in their native countries and promoting the Christian faith to their own people. 

Qualifications:

Satisfactory completion of one or more years of study in higher education

Excellent character with strong Christian witness

Academic achievement at least 3.0 GPA or equivalent, TOEFL score of 500

Financial need

Ability to express self clearly and to personally complete the application in English

Hispanic Scholarship

Description: Scholarship for full-time undergraduate or graduate students of Mexican, American/Chicano, Hispanic or Puerto Rican heritage (at least of parent of Hispanic heritage).

Be of Hispanic background (at least one parent must be fully Hispanic or both parents must be half Hispanic)

International Order Of The King's Daughters And Sons

Amount: $1,000 (Maximum for Tuition ONLY) 

Description: The International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons is an international and interdenominational organization of Christian men and women. Through its Student Ministry Department, the Order promotes Christian love, the highest ideals of Christian living and encourages religious service through this scholarship. 

Qualifications:

Full-time M.Div. student at a school accredited by the Association of Theological Schools

Citizen of the U.S. or Canada

Intention to become a minister of an organized congregation

Must have a “B” average or better for all graduate and undergraduate work

Jonathan M. Daniels Memorial Fellowship Awards

Amount: $8,000 (Maximum) 

Description: Established to provide financial assistance to seminarians seeking to strengthen their theological education through participation in social movements concerned with important human needs, especially anti-racism work. The Fellowships, awarded annually, are intended to set students in accredited theological schools free from their academic life and commitments to be engaged directly in some area of social concern, such as civil rights, fair housing, community organization or environmental issues. They are not intended to support research, supervised field education, existing non-profit organizations or any activity that is primarily based in the school curriculum itself. There is no restriction as to the location of the project.

National Federation of the Blind Scholarships

Description: The National Federation of the Blind is an organization dedicated to creating opportunity for all blind person. Each year at its National Convention in July, the National Federation of the Blind gives a broad array of scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars.
