Dr. Jerry Terrill presented the paper “Kierkegaard’s Influence on the Lives of Jan Patocka and Victor Frankl” at Baylor University’s Symposium on Faith and Culture which was devoted to the work of Soren Kierkegaard, in October 2013.
Terrill’s paper on the life and influences of Dr. Jan Patocka was published in the Brethren Journal in January 2014, and was reprinted in the April 2014 newsletter of the Houston Czech Cultural Center.
Terrill presented the paper “Thoughts on Logotherapy for Combat Veterans” at the Nineteenth World Congress on Victor Frankl’s Logotherapy in the summer of 2011. This will be published in the International Forum for Logotherapy this summer.
In the summer of 2013, Terrill was elected to the Executive Committee of the Texas State Unity of the Brethren Church as third vice-president.

June 16-20, 2014: At the Fifth Annual Summer Institute on Theology and Disability, held in Dallas June 16-20, 2014, Dr. Ben Wall will present a paper, “On the place of presence in the shaping of care.”
Dr. Wall will utilize the resources from the Rule of Benedict such as equality of persons and the healing relationship of being present for others.
Dr. Chuck Pitts and Dr. Doug Kennard presented papers at the Southwest Commission on Religious Studies for the Society of Biblical Literature, held in Dallas March 7-9, 2014.
Dr. Pitts’ paper explored the concept of r’h (evil or distress) as Paradigm in the Book of Jeremiah.
Dr. Kennard’s paper explored the emphasis in 1 John for present propitiation as a priestly Christological (paraklyton) role.
The HGST Campus is happy to welcome The Reverend Dr. Marcus D. Cosby to our campus this spring. He is teaching The Art of Expository Preaching. Dr. Cosby serves as the Senior Pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. A native of Chicago, Illinois, he received the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion and English from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, a Master of Divinity Degree in Homiletics and Christian Education from the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia and the Doctor of Ministry Degree in Homiletics from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Illinois.
While at ITC, Dr. Cosby was chosen as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America and was awarded the Isaac R. Clark Preaching Award. In 2001, The African American Pulpit, a scholarly journal that highlights the preaching prowess of African American preachers across the country, selected him to be included on their inaugural “Twenty to Watch” list, and has subsequently published several of his sermons.
