Welcome to HGST

HGST students come from all walks of life and represent a multitude of different traditions and faith experiences. We have students from every mainline denomination and many from faith communities with no denominational identity.

In what has become quite a cosmopolitan city, our students speak Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Swahili and other African languages, and, of course, English. All this diversity is not only stimulating, but it also serves a wonderful purpose. By coming into contact with backgrounds and faith experiences other than their own, our students are challenged to grow both intellectually and spiritually. They become more confident in their ability to articulate their own beliefs while, at the same time, becoming more sensitive to the diversity they will encounter in the world in which they are called to serve.

At HGST, we acknowledge our common ground while celebrating our God-given differences:

Whether you are equipping yourself to answer God's call to ordained ministry, exploring your own faith more critically, or seeking further academic and professional training, HGST is the place for you. One of our degree plans can help you enter your chosen field of ministry or serve more faithfully and effectively where you already are. Some of our students also choose to pursue their studies without completing a degree. But all bring with them a passion for learning, spirits devoted to prayer and worship, and hearts ready to serve. We seek to provide a setting within which minds, spirits, and hearts can be formed into the likeness of Christ.

Since 1983, Houston Graduate School of Theology has been preparing men and women for faithful leadership in Christian ministry. Now we stand on the threshold of an exciting new chapter in our school’s life, one in which we will be called upon to train a new generation of servant leaders for the ongoing work of God’s Kingdom in transforming our world.
