About Ms. Garr

Rae Garr is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology providing counseling services to students in special education. She obtained the Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas and the Master of Arts degree in Psychology from Houston Baptist University. Currently, she is completing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at Walden University.

During her more than 20 years of experience, she has worked with clients in various capacities (e.g., individual therapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention counseling) and in diverse settings (e.g., private practice, non-profits, churches, and school districts). She began educating others as an intern at the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC), which ignited the passion to understand the facets of trauma. From there, she was hired as the Volunteer Training Coordinator, later becoming the Manager of the Direct Services Training Department. Passionate about establishing a training program that equipped the volunteers with the information as well as skills to support and empower survivors, her training audiences consisted of volunteers, undergraduate and graduate students, medical professionals, law enforcement officers, and allied social service professionals.

As a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP), she was hired in the school district following the aftermath of Katrina and was privilege to work with elementary, middle, and high school students. She also worked at an alternative school that housed students with disciplinary and behavioral challenges.

Counseling allows Ms. Garr the opportunity to operate within her purpose of fostering healing in others. She delights in the privilege to invest, train, and actively give back to the field by sharing her knowledge with future counselors.
