During the 1950s, the family moved to the Houston area where Bill taught school and Rosemarie worked for KHOU-TV as "Miss Marie" of Romper Room. Upon completion of her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Houston, she began a twenty-year career in public education. She served the La Porte Independent School District as teacher, Language Arts Coordinator, and Director of Elementary Education. During this time, she earned her Master of Arts in Education and Doctor of Education degrees from the University of Houston, and taught as an adjunct instructor at the University of Houston at Clear Lake.
In 1990, she answered a call to ministry, began work at the Houston Graduate School of Theology, and married J. D. Hamon, who lived until 2001. In 1994, she received her Master of Divinity degree and was ordained by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). For nine years, she was the pastor of Heights Christian Church in Houston, Texas, and is currently the Associate Pastor for the La Porte Community Church.
