Fall Convocation 2018

Make the decision to remain steadfast to what God is doing in and around us, in our time--no matter what the world around us is saying or doing. Because God is steadfast toward his people. And nothing can prevail against that.

That is but one takeaway for attendees from HGST President Dr. James Furr's address at the Fall Convocation, held on Monday, August 27, and again on Tuesday, August 28, to accommodate student schedules.

Academic Dean Dr. Becky Towne gave the invocation and words of welcome. Professor Dr. Doug Kennard and Registrar Ms. Laura Hamilton were among those who read the Scripture lessons (Psalm 95:1-7; 1 Peter 2:9-10). Dr. Rhonda Furr, Professor of Music at Houston Baptist University, played the piano for the hymns, including "O Worship the King."

In closing, Dr. Furr presented for dedication the school's thirty-sixth Chapel Cross, which was made in Hungary. The cross joins the previous thirty-five--one for each year of the school's existence--on display in the main building of the HGST campus.
