About Dr. Towns
Dr. Towns is a licensed professional counselor who received a master's degree in counseling from Houston Graduate School of Theology and completed a Doctor of Professional Counseling degree at Mississippi College. She is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church and continues to serve the church and community through the ministry of counseling. She attended seminary at Southern Methodist University in Dallas where she earned a master of theological studies. Dr. Towns finds her theological training and ministerial experience complimentary and supportive to the practice of counseling. She is experienced at working with and counseling diverse groups of people, including people of varied faith traditions and those who do not embrace a specific faith but are searching for meaning and spirituality in their lives.
Dr. Towns trained at the Menninger Clinic where she was the first LPC to be accepted and complete a practicum and internship. She was also the first chaplain intern to serve at Menninger since the 1980s. In addition to serving in the church, Dr. Towns currently works in a private counseling practice in Houston. She also can be found speaking in the community on mental health topics and advocating to eradicate stigma associated with mental illness. She has lived in Houston for the past 30 years with her husband. When not busy working, she enjoys outdoor activities and family time with her husband, two sons, and two dogs.
